The location at 67 Singing Pines Drive in Sandpoint is easy to reach via Highway 200 heading east from town or coming from the Montana. If you're going east from Sandpoint in a passenger vehicles NOT under tow, you will go about two miles past the town of Kootenai to mile marker 35 and turn right on Sunnyside Road. Go through the railroad underpass and turn left to stay on Sunnyside Road for 5.5 miles to Singing Pines Drive, about 200 feet before the Hawkins Point public boat dock. Make a wide hairpin turn onto Singing Pines and then stay to the right uphill when the driveway forks. You can park near the camp kitchen/bathhouse or, if you're bringing an RV, drive around the 24x24 deck to the right and then back into the spot on the south end of the deck, or anywhere else around the site.
If you're coming from the west, you can turn left onto Sunnyside Cutoff Road at mile marker 36. Follow it for 1.5 miles and turn left onto Sunnyside Road. From there, it's about 4.5 miles to Singing Pines Drive.
If you're driving a large motorhome or pulling a trailer, the only good way to come to Hawkins Point is by taking Sunnyside Cutoff Road as described above. That will allow you to avoid the underpass at the west end of Sunnyside Road. Do not take the east entrance to Sunnyside Road at mile marker 37, as that turns into a narrow, winding rustic road with blind corners. There is a short but slightly steep hill to climb when the drive forks to the right on Singing Pines Drive. You may want to put your vehicle into 4-wheel-drive before you climb the hill in order to have better traction. Do not stop anywhere on the hill, but climb it steadily and veer off to the right into the meadow below the campsite. Drive around the 24x24 deck to the right and then back into the spot on the south end of the deck, or anywhere else around the site that suits you. The 110 power is located at a pedestal just south of the camp kitchen/bathhouse. The septic inlet is about 20 feet south of that and is covered with a green plastic box. The RED well water hydrant is another 30 feet past that. Do not use the BLUE hydrant, as that is lake water.
